Dr. Jaclyn N. Mauro began her academic journey at the University of Scranton, where she earned a B.S. in Biochemistry. There, she conducted research on the synthesis of nitrile-labeled tryptophan, sparking her interest in synthetic chemistry. In 2024, she completed her PhD in Chemistry at Stony Brook University under the mentorship of Professors Ming-Yu Ngai and Jeffrey Lipshultz. Her doctoral research centered on developing novel methods for radical functional group migration on biomolecules, enabling site-selective functionalization of carbohydrates and synthesis of unnatural amino acids.
On April 16th, Dr. Mauro will lead a discussion on “Improving Soft Skills and Uncovering the Hidden Curriculum” which discusses how the hidden curriculum can be made more accessible in a STEM education.
