What is NACLO?
The North American Computational Linguistics Open is a contest in which high-school students solve linguistic puzzles. In solving these puzzles, students learn about the diversity and consistency of language, while exercising logic skills. No prior knowledge of linguistics or second languages is necessary. Professionals in linguistics, computational linguistics and language technologies use dozens of languages to create engaging problems that represent cutting-edge issues in their fields. The competition has attracted top students to study and work in those same fields. It is truly an opportunity for young people to experience a taste of natural-language processing in the 21st century.
REGISTRATION FOR 2024 EXAM IS OPEN!
Doors open: 9:30 AM (ET)
Test time: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM (ET)
The test will start promptly at 10:00, so please allow adequate travel time.
Directions: To find the campus via GPS, use "100 Nicolls Road, Stony Brook, NY 11790 or 11794." From New York City, take the Long Island Expressway (LIE, I-495) east to exit 62, and follow Nicolls Road north for approximately 8.5 miles. Turn left at the Main entrance. Make another left at the light onto Circle Road and follow Circle Road past the Administration Parking Garage and the Hilton Hotel. Just prior to reaching the roundabout, make a right onto Lake Drive. At the fork bear right into the parking lot in front of our building. We are located in the IACS building which is next to the Life Sciences building. You can drop off your students here.
Parking: Since NACLO is taking place on a weekday, metered spots are not free so we recommend parking in the Administration Parking Garage, near the main entrance to campus. It is only a 3-5 minute walk from there to the IACS. Your parking will be free because we can provide parking validation -- make sure to pick up a validation sticker at the IACS.
Practice Session: Stony Brook will be running a practice session prior to the exam on Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 1-3p. To participate in the practice session, please register here: https://forms.gle/Y91jatyeF6JvrdKJ7
